What We Will Prioritize

Our vision is based on having a clear set of priorities at the heart of our policies. These issues will not be the only areas we work on, but will be the focus of our mandates and efforts.

These three pillars of our campaign are:

Real economy, Affordability, Democracy

or RAD for short

Below is a brief summary of them.

Real economy

Let's be honest, Canada's economy is kind of a joke right now...

Our goal is to change that. We want to drive investment away from unproductive ventures, like real estate, and towards value adding industries, like everything else.

Affordability

It is the main thing on every Canadian's mind and why our party exists in the first place.

In our view the biggest driver of unaffordability has been housing, so it will be our main focus and we'll consider the remaining factors like groceries and fuel as support.

Democracy

It is the foundation of our political system and world view

To strengthen the electoral system and to boost the people's trust in the system. We will reform the electoral system, protect small party funding, and strengthen constitutional protections.

We hold our head high up in the clouds but keep our feet firmly on the ground with these 7 concrete Priorities

1. Responsibly Pop the Real Estate bubble & Bail-out Canadians

It has become a cancer to household budgets and the economy as a whole. Here we will:

Broadly loosen land-use requirements to encourage private construction.
Get cities to rely less on property taxes so they can afford policies that create affordable housing
Severely restrict non-construction investment in the sector.
Bail-out average Canadians when prices fall by reducing outstanding mortgage values.
Increase the direct role of government in the market by creating a variety of affordable non-market housing.
Freeze rents Canada-wide until price correction stops.

2. Elections That Matter More

When election seats can be "won" with less than half the votes, something needs to change. Here we will:

Immediately introduce ranked-choice voting. It is the simplest upgrade.
Immediately bring back per-vote party funding subsidy. Around 4$~5$ of your taxes will go to the party you vote for.
Establish a citizen assembly to investigate potentially better electoral systems and whether Canadians would prefer them.
Repeal bills C-11 (social media one) and C-18 (internet news one) on grounds that they weaken free flow of information and the democratic process.
Work with other parties to strengthen the constitution. Our goals are:
1. No MP should win a seat without at least 50% of votes in their district. People should at least pick a second choice somehow.
2. Weaken emergency powers. Require higher parliament support to freeze financial accounts.
3. Remove/amend the notwithstanding clause. It allows provinces to bypass the Charter of Rights and Freedoms ahead of time when passing laws. It should not be this easy.

3. Improve the real economy, one that makes goods & provides services

We are falling behind the rest of our global peers, and it doesn't have to be this way. This ties into the importance of weakening real estate investment because it is sucking away investments from useful things.

Invest into our workforce, by supporting upskilling & reskilling programs and encouraging investment into productivity tools.
Expand key industries that align with Canada's strengths
- Deregulate what businesses can do, while maintaining worker protections
- With added emphasis on strategic and long-term industries that private investment tend to avoid, like rare earth mineral extraction.
Reduce interprovincial trade barriers as there is still a surprising amount
Increase investment in research & development directly and through joint public-private ventures.
Upgrade our infrastructure, this includes transportation, power generation, communication, and any other areas that act as the groundwork on which businesses build themselves.
- Doing that with environmental sustainability in mind is necessary

4. Cut Homelessness and Drug Addiction at the Root

Just rehabilitating drug addicts will not stop more people from falling down the spiral of homelessness and drug addiction. We need a comprehensive plan to save the victims of addiction and bring back safety to our cities. Here is how we will do that:

Deal with the problem at the source, i.e., the affordability crisis, mainly housing and rental. Minimum wages can't afford a bare minimum quality of life which pushes more people to homelessness and makes it harder for those who want to leave the spiral. Without this all the following efforts are in vain.
Prioritize mandatory rehabilitation, including safe supply during detox. For homeless people without support networks, establish dorms that provide rehab, skill training, minimum wage jobs, and social support. Unused office spaces could prove useful here.
Clamp-down on supply by increasing punishment for high volume operations and offering leniency and protection for low-level dealers.

5. Government Efficiency

The public sector is too bloated today, but is still somehow "understaffed". This drains its budget, slows its work, and starves the private sector from finding valuable employees.

Freeze hiring new employees across the board. Public sector employment has been growing much faster than the private sector. This indicates staffing shortages are likely due to imbalance.
Flatten departments across the board. It appears that the middle management hierarchy is often too long AND that the only long-term promotion path is bilingual middle management. To address this:
1. Add a technocratic promotion pathway that is not managerial and does not require bilingualism. Bilingualism can be an asset that brings this pathway's income in line with current management promotions.
2. Simplify access to teams that do admin tasks, like translation, privacy, and HR.
Improve productivity by providing easier access to tools and improving inefficient processes
Identify bloated departments. Some work really well already, while others sound like a mess. Downsize said departments and help public servants who lose their jobs transition into other departments/private sector.

6. Actual National Security Policy to Protect our Way of Life

Unfortunately, the world is a more dangerous place today, to account for that we must improve our military so it can protect our freedoms if the worst comes.

Adopt non-interventionist foreign policy unless our security needs, allies, or friends are in direct danger.
- We support funding Ukraine because the war there endangers our allies directly.
Increase military size and operational readiness so they are prepared and ready if the worst ever comes to pass
Meet (and exceed) our alliance commitments we are aiming for around 2.5% to 3% of GDP
- Conditional on updating procurement efficiency and cutting wasteful spending
Increase stockpiles and hardware in case the worst comes to pass.
Boost investment and domestic production including R&D. Of special need are:
- The Navy
- Missile interception and counterstrike systems
- Cyber-security
Combat foreign interference in our political process

7. Actually Benefit from Immigration

For a country that has benefitted a lot from immigration we have become extremely bad at managing it while still accepting ever more. to solve this:

Pause most immigration for a year or two to reduce pressure on the system and the economy as a whole. The following will be capped instead of paused:
- Tradespeople: There is a real shortage of tradespeople across Canada. We need more tradespeople to increase housing construction rates meaningfully. We will create an apprenticeship immigration path to match them to jobs.
- International students: The only functioning immigration system we have and does not need fixing. We only need a limit on how many international students are enrolled per year.
- Refugees: The oceans mean we don't get overwhelmed by refugees, so it's heartless to not ease the refugee burden on other countries and help those in need. Instead we will speed up integration of refugees into society and the economy by matching them to training and jobs.
Recognize immigrant experience so that they and us can actually benefit from the experience that had them accepted in the first place.
Prioritize immigrant skills that are needed by provinces whether blue-collar or white-collar.
Speed-up approval/rejection process for all immigration tracks. The process is currently too slow and too opaque.
